Top Ten Reasons

Experience the Microsoft Office Communicator platform

  1. Find people easily and visually.

Immediate and striking visual representation of a contact’s presence makes it easy to reach the person you need. By simply looking at a contact name, you can see whether a person is available, in a meeting, or out of the office and work out the best way to reach them. If a contact isn’t available, you can tag them to receive a notification when their availability status changes.
  2. Let others know the best way to contact you.

While your presence is automatically set based on your Outlook calendar, computer activity, and whether you’re on a call, you can also set it manually and/or add a customised message to control how and when others contact you. You can also control who can see your information by assigning contacts to groups – for example, you can create a list of preferential contacts who’re allowed to reach you even if your status is set to ‘Do Not Disturb’.
  3. Gain immediate access to all your contacts.

You’ve got immediate access to all the contacts in your corporate directory, as well as all your Outlook contacts. You can also add email-enabled Corporate Distribution Groups without having to recreate them manually from your contact list. What’s more, you can addcontacts from public IM services like MSN Messenger, Windows LiveT, AOL and Yahoo!
  4. Select multiple contacts for single click conferencing.

The system lets you initiate a multi-party conversation using IM, phone or video – by selecting multiple contacts at once. Simply select the names from your Contact List and right-click an option like ‘Send an Instant Message’ or ‘Start a Conference Call’.
  5. Choose the communication method that best suits your needs.

You can start an IM session and add audio and video as the situation demands. Switching between different modes of communication and bringing more people into the conversation is easy, with an intuitive interface, one-click actions and highly visual presence information.
  6. Get powerful phone features through your PC.

Office Communicator combines software and telephony to provide you with powerful features and more options and control over the way you communicate. Make PC-to-PC calls or call another phone, whether you’re in the office or at a remote location with an Internet connection. You can also add subject lines and priority levels to your VoIP calls to provide more context. Plus you can use call forwarding to another phone, contact or voicemail, or simultaneously ring another number, all from your PC.
  7. Communicate within the applications you use most.

Microsoft Office is integrated with your applications, so you can have more contextual and efficient conversations and discussions. Wherever you see a familiar presence icon, you can click to access a menu of options to communicate with that contact – for example, from an email received in Outlook, you can view presence information for the contact and initiate a real time communication from within the message – with no need to switch applications to search for colleagues.
  8. Enjoy rich text in IM messages.

You can copy and paste text from various Microsoft Office applications while retaining the original formatting. This feature simplifies information sharing by letting you exchange tables or data in real-time without needing to send large files back and forth.
  9. Experience easy, intuitive device support and integration.

With Office Communicator’s robust functionality, it’s easy to add the audio and video devices of your choice. With automatic detection, you can quickly add USB devices like handsets, headsets, speakers, microphones and web cameras – which all plug in directly to your PC and enrich the calling experience.
  10. Work together in real-time – in the office and on the road.

You don’t need a virtual private network (VPN) to connect to your corporate server network, with plenty of access to rich presence and communications capabilities from various devices. You can choose to connect from your desktop PC using Office Communicator, a web browser using Communicator Web Access or a Microsoft Windows Mobile device using Communicator Mobile – whichever’s most convenient.
